The Smith House is your entry point to parc du Mont-Royal. A heritage building constructed in 1858, the Smith House has become an education, exchange and cooperation centre devoted to the conservation of Mount Royal’s environment.
Visitors can take advantage of a reception service open year-round at the Smith House for information, activities and services. There, they are invited to share their observations, comments, or suggestions. The house also contains a documentation centre, open by appointment only.
A permanent exhibition entitled Monte Real, Monreale, Mont Royal, Montréal is situated on the main floor. Admission is free for this exhibition, which provides an overview of the history, natural environment and associated conservation issues concerning Mount Royal. An interactive computer terminal provides additional information about the Aboriginal presence on Mount Royal and on the works of art that can be viewed in the park. A leaflet containing games is available to guide your tour of the exhibition.
Visitors can find original souvenirs and all the equipment they need for bird watching, or identifying plants or rocks at the gift shop, which focuses on Mount Royal. Also available at the gift shop are maps of Mount Royal, interpretation brochures and books.
As well, the Smith House’s meeting rooms are available for many activities, for school groups, talks, conferences, workshops and receptions. The house is also the headquarters of les Amis de la montagne and the Centre de la montagne.
