Providing a gift to Les Amis de la montagne is one of the best ways to show your support for Mount Royal. When you make a contribution towards the conservation of Mount Royal, you provide and create a legacy.
We invite you to make a charitable donation through the transfer of stock in companies which have appreciated in value. News of major transactions involving companies such as BCE and Alcan will translate into considerable capital gains for stockholders.
Since 2006, gifts of publicly-traded stock are not taxed on the capital gain, whereas, if you were to sell the stock first and make a gift from the proceeds, 50% of the gain would be taxable. Therefore, it would be to your advantage to transfer stock directly to Les Amis de la montagne rather than cashing it in and then making a donation. Les Amis will provide a donation receipt for the fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift.
