Wednesday, May 6
LES AMIS DE LA MONTAGNE’S PUBLIC FORUM
This month, Les amis’ forum participants will be taken on a guided visit of the southern sector of the mountain, including the former site of Marianopolis College, the Grand Séminaire and the Montreal General Hospital. Join us to discover the history and heritage of this area to gain a better understanding of the future development projects on these sites and their conservation challenges.

Wednesday, May 6
LECTURE: BIRDS IN MONTREAL
Mr. Jean Léveillé, M.D., professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Université de Montréal, will answer a variety of surprising and entertaining questions on birds in Montreal, as part of the Belles Soirées de l’Université de Montréal lecture series (in French). When not practising medicine, he devotes his time to photographing and watching birds. Through his original and impassioned perspective, he may inspire you to preserve Montreal’s rich bird heritage.

LECTURE: MOUNT ROYAL AND THE SECRETS OF BEAVER LAKE
Mr. Pierre J.H. Richard, PhD (Montpellier), professor in the Geography Department, Université de Montréal, will describe how Mount Royal was central to the profound geographical changes in the region since the last deglaciation, as part of the Belles Soirées de l’Université de Montréal lecture series (in French). You will never look at Beaver Lake or the viewpoints from the mountain in quite the same way as before!

GUIDED WALK: THE GEOLOGY OF MOUNT ROYAL – MILLIONS OF YEARS BENEATH YOUR FEET
Join Les amis de la montagne for this guided walk in the heart of the mountain to discover the clues that allow us to retrace the geological history of the mountain from its creation to present day. In French.

GUIDED WALK: ORNITHOLOGICAL EXPLORATION OF MOUNT ROYAL
The arrival of springtime is the ideal time of year to observe the hundreds of species of birds that frequent the mountain during this season. Join a bird specialist of Les amis de la montagne to discover numerous bird species and discover the importance of the mountain’s ecosystem that serves as the stopping place of choice for migrating birds. Bring your binoculars! In French.

3rd MOUNT ROYAL BIRD INVENTORY
About 40 amateur ornithologists will volunteer their time to continue the bird inventory begun in May 2006 on Mount Royal. Individuals will independently observe birds and collect data following a scientific protocol. The inventory will take place on the greater territory of the mountain, including the Université de Montréal, the Mount Royal and Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemeteries, Summit Park in Westmount and Mount Royal Park.

EXHIBIT “SUR LE TOIT DE MONTRÉAL”
As part of the “Sur le toit de Montréal” project, the exhibit presents the discoveries of close to 400 elementary school children from Montreal in the form of posters created collectively by each class. The project was made possible by the Programme de soutien à l’école montréalaise du ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport and Les amis de la montagne, in partnership with the Université de Montréal, St-Joseph’s Oratory and the cavalry unit of the SPVM.
